I think this is a good idea, as the Gita, is an exposition of an universal philosophy of life and its purpose. It does not demand belief but provides explanations. It does not prescribe rituals nor does it prescribe a set of dos and donts. It is not Hindu mythology and one can remain a Muslim or Christian or Buddhist or even Marxist or atheist and still learn from the Gita. The Mahabharata is Hindu mythology at its creative best and is as rich in content and creativity as Greek mythology. It is a window into the minds of our ancestors. To prescribe its study may not meet the test of what is considered secular in this country. But to say that Hindus as well as Muslims and others will learn about our past from this is not devoid of truth. I went to a school where the Bible was taught and Christian prayers were part of the veryday regime. It didnt make me any less of a Hindu.
