I thought about the Ferguson situation and for some reason this commercial popped into my head. I love this country so much...I still remember the rush I felt on Friday nights under the lights when I placed my hand over my heart, faced the flag, and sang along to the National Anthem with my brothers to my left and right, united in purpose. Francis Scott Key wrote that song as he witnessed the American flag waving at various points despite an unrelenting assault by the British on Fort McHenry. As long as that flag still waves, I still have hope for this country and hope that well one day see these very cool (but little known) verses of America the Beautiful as prophetic rather than aspirational. America! America! God mend thine evry flaw, Confirm thy soul in self-control, Thy liberty in law. O beautiful for glorious tale Of liberating strife, When valiantly for mans avail Men lavish precious life. America! America! May God thy gold refine Till all success be nobleness, And evry gain divine. O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears. America! America! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea. youtu.be/443Vy3I0gJs
