I urge my friends and correspondents on Facebook to attend to the lead story in todays jerusalem post. Last night, in response to this horrible attack--which is only the latest in an endless stream--I posted a quotation from David Ben Gurion, in which he said (I paraphrase) it was more important for Jews to focus on what they should do for themselves than worry about what the goyim say about us. One of my best friends on Facebook, who has contended with me in this setting for years, about our conduct with respect to so-called Palestinians. Although we derive pleasure from our relation in many areas, we have always been at odds on this matter. He told me that it was extremely offensive and racist for me to post BGs statement. I feel very strongly about this complex matter, and immediately devoted more than an hour to formulating a reply. I posted my reply as a comment in the thread, but I really want to evoke much more dialogue on this, so I am reporting my response. I look forward to hearing from Facebook friends.
