I was asked to make a little video of how I create a basic gradient in watercolor. This particular technique allows you to add multiple colors of pigment to a wet wash to achieve a smooth gradient in one layer. Key tip: wet the paper first with clear water to allow the pigments to mix together directly on the paper! (Ive exaggerated this in the video so you can see it.) I used two Winsor & Newton watercolors: French Ultramarine Blue and Cadmium Yellow Light. (the green is just a mix of the two on my palette.) After I applied the watercolor pigment here, I left it alone to dry. Watercolor will be more vivid and less murky if you dont over-fuss with it while it is drying. Happy painting! :)
