I was having a discussion with my co-workers the other day about how gelatin and other animal by products are in gummy candies, hershey candy etc. I do know that it is very important to avoid processed foods if you want to make sure you are not ingesting animal by products unknowingly (cause many times they are not even listed in the ingredients). I did a little sleuthing if I could find a comprehensive list of products that contain pork etc.... and the only really thorough one was an Islamic website informing of clean/unclean food items. Crazy! I was surprised and not surprised by many on the lists! For example all of these items have Pork, Gelatin or some other meat by product in them. Rice Crispy Treat Squares, Special K Protein Snack Bars, Pepperidge Farm Cakes, Sara Lee Cheese Cake, Trident Gum, Altoids, All Hershey and Wonka Candy, Welches fruit Snacks, Lucky Charms, Fruit Loops, Baskin-Robins Rocky Road, Minute Maid Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice, Freschetta Cheese Pizza, Cream Soda by dr. Pepper is made with Beaver by products? WTF!!!!, Jiffy Corn bread Mix, Frito Lay Cookies and the list goes on and on and on. Check it out if you want to know more.
