I was sitting in the car at Northwest at 11 am this morning, I had just dropped my mum off for a her heart stress test.and I was listening to the radio..when they broke in to say that Doc Neeson had passed away-after his short battle with brain cancer..I was shocked, I really was. I had to ask a lady walking past could she check the net to see if it was true. Then MMM had a 30 min special and I knew it was true..Its always so sad when anyone passes away and especially a musician from a band-who you have grown up with, listened to and seen in concert so many times growing up, sort of like your part of a family, a family of fans..I wasnt a real fan, Like I am Of Jimi Hendrix for instance; but They were part of my youth.. So in 20012 I started to try to film all the bands I grew up with, like Cold Chisel, Ian Moss, Swannee, Radiators, and the Angels.. On the 27/10/2012. I was fortunate (as many of you know) to film The Doc Neeson Band at The Bayview Tavern. I arrived a bit early and locked my keys in the car, and as I was getting out of the car I hit my eye on the door-my fractured eye. I didnt have a mobile phone so had to go into a restaurant and ask. A kind person rang for me.. After waiting for a while the NRMA turned up, they said it was a 2 hour wait. I said how I was to film Doc Neeson in less than hour and it was very important, and the NRMA Man who turned up was a an Angels fan and when he heard that on the radio he rushed over and unlocked my door within 25 min. I rushed over Victoria Rd and rushed inside as they were doing a sound check and Id never been there before and didnt know where I could set-up. I am watching the footage I took of that and I can see I was set up in front, but at the back of the room near the mixer (wasnt much room though) there were so many people, I thought-I have to look for a closer place to the stage. Just then, one of the Roadies came over and said Doc wants to speak to you. So he took me backstage and Doc was sitting on a chair and Introduced myself, and told him what I Intended to do with the footage. I told him how I give the footage to the bands/musicians and after watching it-if they allow me to, I woudl upload whatever song(s) they allowed me to, but wouldnt put anything on-line without his permission or ever sell the footage.he then started to write a contract out, a very long contract, and eventually asked me to read it then sign it for him. I said I dont need too read it (as much as i wanted to) as whatever it contains I agree to..I couldnt read it anyway as I had hit my sore eye when I climbed out of the car earlier and actually couldnt see too well, but I wasnt going to tell him that. I signed it and then set-up close to the speakers, (alienating a few people who then couldnt see and had t move to the side of me) ,I did try to get out of everyones way though and then filmed the entire show. Now and then as I was standing on a chair with the Video on a table and the tripod extended- Doc; looked directly at the video.. Watching the footage right now I am glad I recorded it for Doc, as a record for his family now. R.I.P Doc, you bought a lot of happiness to many people and the Angels Music will always live on..A Very Unique Individual, with a voice like no other, Totally Original.
