I was surprise to learn that the rice varities being currently promoted in the Gambia are GMO rice. All the new varieties such as Narica, Kanilie, Kanfengda, Nr. 14 etc. etc. are all GMOs. How safe is this for us in future? Someone told me that we might face hunger because we will be depending on laboratories to continue supplying us with new seeds once our local seeds are extinct. It is alarming that GMOs pose a serious threat to farmer sovereignty and to the national food security of any country where they are grown. See also: nongmoproject.org/learn-more/
