I wrote this poem a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, it is even more apropos today: Armed and Dangerous When I walk by you, There is a look of fear in your eye. Since I have done nothing to harm you, I ask myself, Why? Every time you see me, You hold your purse tighter. Do I look like a thief or a fighter? I can walk down the street with a bible in my hand. Yet you perceive me, As an Armed and dangerous man. I am going to become a doctor. Therefore, I am college bound. You will never see me hanging out, Acting like a clown. With the image of Armed and dangerous, I cannot relate. Because it is a stereotype that the media loves to perpetuate. Will you ever see me for who I am? A kind, sensitive, loving, intelligent, and motivated Black man.
