IF YOU ARE FROM YORK READ THIS! In the next few weeks Dave Meckley, the man appointed by Governor Corbett to oversee the York City School District’s financial recovery plan, will be making a decision that could forever change the landscape of public education in Pennsylvania. The kids of York City are going to be used as an experiment. I recognize that there needs to be improvements with our public education system but that should not allow the door to be opened to private for profit companies to come from wherever to take over our schools and make huge profits off the backs of our kids. Our school board needs your help. Their next scheduled meeting is Wednesday October 15th and they need to know that they have the support of the community to turn down the recommendation of Dave Meckley (if he chooses to turn the district over to charters). York City has to show up in force to let them know that this is not the best possible option for our kids. As we draw closer to the date, I will be setting up an invite page to invite all of York City to the school board meeting so we can let them know that we are not in favor of our kids being investments for these companies being run by men who make hundreds of thousands of dollars with no one for them to answer to. Let’s give these elected officials the support they need to represent the interests of the community at the next meeting. Once this is done we can focus on strengthening the relationships between teachers, parents, school board members, community members, and above all else the students of the School District of the City of York. You can email the board members and sign the petition using the link below. psea.org/yorkcity/
