IN fulfilment of a dream to extend a helping hand to the active poor in the society and in the spirit of Christmas, the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, and founder of Word of Life Bible Church, Warri, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor has perfected plans to give out seven brand new cars, 20 tricycles and 100 grinding machines to members of the society on Boxing Day. Despite the harsh economic climate in the country which is responsible for the very austere Christmas season, the Word of Life Bible Church in collaboration with its Eagle Flight Micro Finance Bank has decided to increase the number of items it is giving out this year to seven cars. The church gave out six cars last year and in keeping with the tradition of raising the stakes each year, is adding one more car and five tricycles to bring the number of tricycles to 20. All these items would, without any prejudice, be given out through a ballot process tomorrow morning at a ceremony scheduled for Ajamimogha Road in Warri, Delta State. In addition to the raffle draw which will produce seven car owners, 20 Keke owners, Eagle Flight Micro Finance Bank will also use the occasion to render its balance sheet for the year and reward some of its customers and hard working staff. The vision which began eight years ago with one car, a number motorcycles has steadily risen to seven cars. In a recent interview, Pastor Oritsejafor said the annual empowerment programme was his own way of giving back to the society, especially the less privileged, noting that the essense of wealth was about sharing with the needy. According to him, the level of poverty in the country motivated him to alleviate the suffering of the few he can reach, tasking wealthy individual Nigerians, politicians, governments and corporate organisations to always consider the plight of the poor masses in the society. Oritsejafor maintained that if most of the corporate organisations could set aside a certain percentage of their annual profits for the empowerment of the youths of the country, some of the security challenges Nigeria is currently facing would have been a thing of the past. “Why is it that wealthy Nigerians and cororate organisations cannot do much more that the church is currently doing in terms of bringing succour to the people,” he appealed, warning that the young people we refuse to help today will be the ones who will hound the society tomorrow.
