Id like to speak to anyone who has had a surgery with or without - TopicsExpress

Id like to speak to anyone who has had a surgery with or without insurance since obamacare. Jamie cant go any longer without having her knee fixed. The injury is 10 years old. We believe its a meniscus tear. Weve put off insurance for years because with the old pre existing condition clauses, no one would insure for it anyways. At this point were open to all options including 100% out of pocket, buying insurance or medical tourism. The insurance plans we could afford all had $5000+ deductibles which is fine as long as they would actually cover the rest of the surgery. We have heard everything from people saying that their new insurance plans were great and handled everything but the deductible all the way through to them paying $250 a month for insurance that didnt cover anything besides basic visits a few times a year. Weve gotten by just fine up until now by just paying for insurance for the kids and paying cash for my wife and I when we need it. Id like to here about any plans you have and how you like them but more about any experiences involving a major surgery and the costs involved with or without insurance or traveling. Was there a time limit you had to meet before you could take advantage of big ticket things? Was there a surgeon in the Seattle area you liked? At this point the MRI and related appointments for diagnosis will be a hefty part of a large yearly deductible so for the first time it seems like insurance might be the best route for us. Any info is greatly appreciated. Feel free to pm me if you dont want to post your information out in the open. Thanks. -James
