If Right to Farm passes we, as citizens, will have no recourse to make sure that industrial farms don’t pollute our water, to keep multinational corporations from abusing their power, or to stop a factory farm from being built in our community or our backyard. The language of this amendment is vague and overreaching. No other industry is afforded such overreaching, massive and unreasonable blanket protection in our Missouri Constitution. It is unsafe to compromise the safety of our food in this manner. The Right to Farm already exists in Missouri. Revised statutes in chapter 350 and 537 grant Missouri’s Family Farmers the right to engage in agricultural pursuits. This constitutional amendment is not to protect independent family farmers who are good stewards of the land and animals, but is intended to protect corporations and factory farms.
