If any of you are interested in helping to preserve one of the best training areas in Florida, there is a Change.org petition to try to save the clay roads in Clermont that draw so many professional and amateur runners and triathletes to that area. Without the clay roads, I would guess that the attraction to Florida for these athletes would diminish, and the Florida running community would suffer. This issue may not seem to impact Gainesville, but many of the runners that train in Clermont compete in events like the Florida Relays and other high profile local races. If you have never been to Clermont to run on the clay trails, please make a visit and you will see why so many athletes are passionate about trying to preserve this.
