If you think your job might disappear in 2015 - read on ... Ive been catching up on my pile of articles over the break and have just finished reading one by Douglas Rushcoff that asks the question Are jobs obsolete?. It is a very real fear for a lot of people - particularly our older workers. Weve recently witnessed people on the streets here in Auckland NZ, holding placards saying Im looking for a job? I hear several of them found work GREAT NEWS. So whats the threat? Well technology is the biggie of course - why pay people to do a job that can be done quicker, cheaper and possibly even more accurately by a computer? But there IS hope for our humans. Because I also read an article about jobs of the future (by David Tuffley - lecturer in applied ethics) and he says that we will still need: * Engineers * accountants * Lawyers * Financial advisors * therapists * Vets * teachers * sales reps * construction workers * customer service people So humans are NOT obsolete - but humans do need to keep an eye on the changing marketplace. Its no use crying in our soup if our job vanishes when the signs were right in front of our noses and we chose to ignore them! Keep alert is my tip. Ann
