If you witnessed a cardiac arrest would you know what to do? About 30,000 Aussies suffer cardiac arrests each year and three quarters of out-of-hospital arrests occur at home – often witnessed by family or friends. That means we are all a crucial part of the chain of survival. After calling Triple Zero (000) for help, giving early cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, can significantly improve a patient’s chances. Today Health Minister Lawrence Springborg joined QAS Acting Deputy Commissioner Craig Emery and Local Ambulance Committee volunteers in Caloundra to launch a new suite of education resources as part of the CPR Awareness Program – a fantastic initiative that aims to give Queenslanders the skills and confidence to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest. Run by Local Ambulance Committees in their local communities, the program has already trained more than 20,000 people in this life-saving technique.
