If your Liberal friends are polluting your FB timeline with commentaries that describe Obama as the next coming of Ronald Reagan, youre as sick of it as I am by now. Look, Libs, Obama is a left wing ideologue, and, fortunately for our side, an incompetent one. He did not save the economy, he is NOT some kind of fiscal conservative, and his job creation record is not Reaganesque or Clintonesque. Its shitty. You can read my timeline or blog for the explanation, so please STFU about it already. You lost. But, before I go, can we put to rest this notion of him as budget cutter. Im going to do a detailed analysis of this in my 14 Points series, but let me give you the quick version of Obama the budget cutter. In 2009, we had 2 very significant spending events occur that were above and beyond the original Bush FY 2009 budget. The first was TARP, which was passed to save the banking industry. Through a series of loans, the government fronted a whole bunch of dough to the banks. You may remember Bush and Treasury Secy Paulson pushed this through. It ended up with most all the banks paying it back and cost the treasury very little to nothing. The second event occurred in a Spring 2009 and was the Obama Stimulus package. That was a $1T spending hill above and beyond the 2009 budget. Now, it was a 5 year bill, so it wasnt all in 09. But it all was deficit spending and added to the deficit. It also let Obama defenders, as that spending slowed down in the out years, to use it as a baseline and make a claim that Obama cut spending. So, its games with math. I increase spending in year 1 by 20%. Year 1 happens to be FY2009. I can plausibly claim that budget belongs to my predecessor, so I give him credit for that increase (although I proposed it and my partisan Congress passed it). The next 5 years I keep spending at relatively constant levels (remember, Pork, oops Stimulus) was a 5 year plan, although theyre 20% higher than the baseline back in 2009 that doesnt belong to me. Presto/Voila I can claim I am a budget cutter without doing really anything. Its sort of the same way the unemployment numbers work with him.
