Im asking for help from FB friends to spread the word about an opportunity to support refugees from Congo through art and community education. Do you have contacts with galleries or other educational spaces anywhere in the USA or Canada (community or college/university, conferences, related non-profit groups)? Visual Studies Workshop is scheduling host gallery spaces for a powerful traveling multimedia exhibit called Survivors featuring teen refugee siblings Sandra Uwiringiyimana and Alex Ngabo’s portraits of fellow survivors of the refugee camp Gatumba Massacre (related to waves of violence in the regional conflict after the Rwandan genocide). Accompanying interview segments, a documentary video with traditional music, and wall text provides the survivors’ own reflections on themes related to the struggle for justice as well as forgiveness, faith and healing. The exhibit also includes an inspiring essay by Dr. Joseph Sebarenzi, genocide survivor and former speaker of Rwanda Parliament. Rental cost for the exhibition directly supports the nonprofit Gatumba Refugees Survivors Organization. Thank you for considering passing and sharing this to anyone you know might be interested. VSW is currently scheduling travel for the next three years. Please see this link attached to download the prospectus as a pdf file and contact Tate Shaw, Visual Studies Workshop (585) 442-8676 ext. 21. [email protected] for further information.
