Im going to say something that I am sure my conservative friends are not going to like. First- I am no fan of our President. His worldview is fundamentally at odds with my worldviews. I didnt vote for him in 08 and 12 and did my best to stop both his election and re-election (never mind that my choice was only nominally better than President Obama). Yes, I believe a lot of his policies are holding this country back, BUT I do not blame the President for the jobless recovery. I blame the new reality that many people are afraid to face, a reality that has very little to do with democrats or republicans. The reality is this- it takes a ton less manpower to make, do, sell, serve, build, design than it used to. It also takes a lot less capital. Its only going to get worse for the unskilled worker and, if you dont have a high skill, a way to demonstrate you know what you know in real world examples, a proof of trust-worthiness or a willingness to do dangerous work, you will be left behind. Nothing can change this, not the democrats or the republicans. The reality is, the days of big are coming to an end. The days of small are coming upon us. There will be limited room to be part of the new small reality or be left behind in the lawless lands beyond the new gated world to come. Part of the vision I have is to prepare those who would be left behind to be self-reliant, self-sustaining, to not, in fact, be left behind. As this new reality emerges, unless you love people, the new powers will have very little incentive to serve the left behind. They will be happy to shut the gates and leave you to defend for yourselves. This is not a prophetic vision, but a belief I have had since 2003, and so much of what I thought would happen (especially in terms of technology) is already happening. The time has come for all of us to learn to BE the freedom our creator gave us and lift up others to do the same. When they close their gates, let them close them on thriving, vital people, not terrified wretches desperate for a scrap of food.
