Im not sure why people are opposed to wearing snowshoes, and the snowshoe regs??!! Im always super excited to strap the snowshoes on for the first time, and every time for that matter. It means winter has arrived and transformed the mountains into a winter wonderland. I here people say they dont like carrying the extra weight; its only 4-5 pounds extra. A 1.5 liter water bottle with cozy and my thermos of tea weigh more than that! I like wearing my MSR Evos, great traction, heel elevators to reduce calf fatigue, and they pack a nice trail out for the walk back. Practice makes perfect as far as pace goes with snowshoes. Ive managed to get my pace to a respectable 1.7-2.1 MPH with the MSRs on my feet, depending on conditions. Less than 1 MPH while breaking trail, but that is a different beast! Anyone else feel the same way? I kind of feel like Im in the minority here.
