Im so excited for the local community of barbershop. Many of you - TopicsExpress

Im so excited for the local community of barbershop. Many of you know, Im very involved in an extremely successful group in KC. I have ALWAYS stayed faithful, loyal, and true to my local community group, Voices of America. Others have fled for other gratification, but there is a very committed group of individuals seeking to make it happen and regain success and glory we once, twice, and three times have achieved. Its no longer about a name change, past members, spontaneously auditioning to prove readiness for a contest 6 weeks out, accomplishments, or the driving force of simply one individual or family. Its about passion for good quality music, and future success of a long standing respected musical group, that has given so much to the community and a since of individual pride and ownership. It has been so exciting to see the membership step up these past few months. We are more ready for Valentines than ever in the past, with FIVE quality songs. We did quarteting the past two weeks and all had a blast. As we rotated singers throughout the songs, it was difficult to notice the changes. That being said, we are all pumped up by an incredibly talented and educated new director, Steve Scott. for the group. We are currently in negotiations and he and possibly his wife, will be here again this coming Tuesday to guest direct. He is a fun young guy with a young family. Here is some information about his success: -- Mr Steve Scott -- originally from Utah, started singing barbershop with his Dad as a pre-teen -- has his BME in Choral Music Education from Utah State - his MM in Choral Conducting from The Ohio State University -- his MA in Vocal pedagogy from OSU & is current a PhD student at University of Kansas in Vocal Pedagogy -- where also teaches many classes -- before coming to KU he he taught at Darton State college -- he has been through various tracks at Harmony University -- he is currently the Chairman of the Barbershop Harmony Societys Director Development Committee -- -- come be a part of this incredible night of barbershop music -- Tuesday, January 21 at 7:30. Im not inviting any old baggage, only new hope for the future. If youve liked Acappella music in the past and you see a clear bright future, be there Tuesday night at 7:20, ready to have fun and sing at 7:30. Leave skeptics at home and bring your positive attitude. Do it for yourself, your passion, tradition and desire for a great community program. The true future lies in the youth, and new blood, however, with the right attitude, we can all make a difference. Its something you love, dont be selfish and keep it to yourself, bring a friend, theres plenty of fun for everyone. Many think its easier, in this disposable society, to just throw something out when it stops working and replace it with something new. Im a believer that if it was once worthwhile, its worth the effort to renew its strength and glory. Im Passionate about the success of this group that I love, even though at times, Ive been ready to take the easy road. My faith in this group constantly amazes me as it was so evident this past Tuesday. I told all the guys that I had had a day from Hell, but by the middle of rehearsal I had been uplifted and at the end was ready to take on the world. This has happened many times in my barbershop career! Please join in my passion for the success of the future of this group. See you Tuesday at 7:19pm January 21. 4503 Frederick Avenue, Our Lady of Guadalupe (Summers Hall) Enter the Northeast double doors. In Harmony, Sandy Gumm
