Imo Summit: Stakeholders Press for Power Shift to Owerri Zone in 2015 By Amby Uneze in Owerri The age-long Imo Charter of Equity was the centre-point of a well attended Imo Political Summit held in Owerri, as speakers agitated for power shift to Owerri zone come 2015. Also, efforts by the state government to abort the summit was thwarted as security agencies were right on hand to ensure a successful event. The summit which commenced amidst tight security was attended by chieftains of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties, including Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu; Senator Chris Anyanwu representing Imo East; Minister for State Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri; Hon. Gerald Irona representing Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru East Federal Constituency; Imo State Chairman of the PDP, Eze Duruiheoma (SAN), Dr Chris Asoluka; former deputy governors of the state, Dr. Ada Okwuonu; Dr. Douglas Acholonu; Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho former Minister of Interior; Dr. Vitalis Ajumbe Orikeze, National Publicity secretary of the newly formed All Progressives People’s Alliance (APPA), while the deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha was represented. Iwuanyanwu who was the chairman of the summit expressed delight on the conveners, stating that it was aimed at charting a way forward for the state. He said the purpose of the summit was apt especially at a period when the state seemed to have lost grip of forging ahead.
