Importance of Stretches and Warm-up Exercises When playing baseball, it is important to stay in shape and be in the best condition possible to avoid injuries. There are many stretches and strength exercises that players like to do in order to warm up their bodies and to get limber. Stretching before a game or practice is important because it helps to prevent muscles from becoming strained. Baseball is an active sport, involving running, throwing, batting and other movements. When running, it is important that the ankles are warmed up and loose, especially because there is a lot of start and stop motion when running the bases. Batting involves swinging the bat in a motion that is pretty unique to the sport, and involves the arms, back and legs. When swinging, it is important to protect the back and use proper technique so the back muscles are not twisted incorrectly.
