In 1753 Ben Franklin was put in charge of the Colonial postal system by the British Government. In order to determine charges for postage. He set out in a carriage with a homemade odometer attached to its wheel and marked off each mile from NY to Boston. Each mile would be marked with a stake and workmen following him would place a stone marker carved with the appropriate mileage to or from the next most populated town. In Stratford there are mile markers midway up West Broad Street past the traffic light (inscribed 15 Miles to NH)New Haven, and where East Broadway meets Ferry Blvd(inscribed 14 miles to NH) Can you find others? Look for them in other Towns also.
