In 1998, I got a gig serving as the Astronomer on a total solar eclipse Windjammer sailing cruise in the Caribbean. The ship was off its regular schedule, hitting small islands, and keeping in the area where the eclipse was best. I spent the night in the Miami Airport and did not know until minutes before my flight where the ship would be. They told me to fly to St. Martin and then find Winn Air for a flight to Saba Island. There was no Winn Air in the terminal and I finally found a shack that looked like a telephone booth outside with a sign Winn Air, Be back soon. Finally they arrived and I boarded the plane to Saba. When we got there, Saba was just one big volcano in the ocean. The only thing close to flat was the top of the volcano. They used that island in the original King Kong movie. After that scary landing (see video) an old man came up to me and asked if I was Mr. Peterson and took me to the Windjammer. The eclipse was fantastic and I even got some video of the volcano in Montserrat erupting DURING the total eclipse. Ill never top the sight, but the landing on the shortest runway in the World was something else. boldmethod/blog/video/2014/10/saba-the-smallest-commercial-airport/
