In 2012 I saw a course being offered by Time Out. A local company stocking fabrics etc offering a course. I had to plead with them a bit to join the course because they already had regulars. I was grateful they let me, because I discovered that despite years of being told I wasnt any good at sewing by a peer. I discovered that actually Im reasonably talented in sewing. I wont say I know everything because I dont...for example this weeks experiment was beading fabric and sewing sequins, but it looks okay and I double stitched to make them secure!!. Cutebag.net came about from people telling me my bags were beautiful and that I should try and sell them. I started sewing to prove to myself that I could do it and so far so good. Ive already given some away, its not all about money. If it was, I be designing them and paying a factory somewhere to make them. Little fish dont always survive against big companies like Amazon for example or big design houses. However, every time I make something its made with care, concentration and a need to create something beautiful. Sewing like Jewellery making or painting is a way of losing your thoughts into something indefinable. I love looking at a piece of fabric and seeing an image of what I can create, enhance, change and shape. Im frequently unpicking stitches when they dont cut the mustard and thats why things take a while to make. If I charged for my time on each bag they would be very expensive. As it is I look at the bags and think? How much would I be prepared to pay for that. Thats why they start from £10 for a purse. Why pay more for the purse then the amount of money one carries in a purse?? There are a lot of barriers in my way and Im not blind, I see the way people can like one minute, say or do the wrong thing and they reject you. I make these bags because I love creating them. I put a lot of my heart into them, so if people think they are beautiful then perhaps it means there is beauty in everyone?!!...If you have taken time to read this, then Thank You.
