In Arkansas, performing a tattoo without a license is a felony. Buying, selling or possessing tattoo equipment is a misdemeanor... for every machine, needle, tube...etc. Forget their lack of training. Consider that they are doing a surgical procedure on the largest protective organ on your body. Never mind that their tattoos dont heal well and end up like shit. Youre putting yourself at risk when you get tattooed by a buddy. Also consider skill. Just because someone does or doesnt a license doesnt mean they should be tattooing. Anybody can buy a license. Shit, stop by and cut me a check and Ill give you your shot at a license... (really, I wont. If you want an apprenticeship. ...show up with artwork and artwork resume, a positive attitude and a basic understanding of trade/tech schools and the fact that they have tuition, curriculum and regulation, first aid and cross contamination prevention education... definitely dont show up and demand anything) ...but I digress... Dont be an idiot. You do t get your wisdom teeth removed in a kitchen. You dont have knee surgery in a hotel. You dont have your appendix removed in a bedroom.
