In Oras, Eastern Samar, DOLE assists 51 fishermen with fishing boats Secretary of Labor and Employment Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday released a check of P640,340 to 51 fishermen of Oras, Eastern Samar who have banded together to enhance their occupation as fishermen and thus improve their income. Baldoz handed the check to Mayor Vivianne P. Alvarez of Oras who, as local chief executive, is the accredited copartner of the Department of Labor Employment (DOLE) in the implementation of livelihood projects in Oras. DOLE Regional Office No. 8 Director Exequiel Sarcauga, Oras PESO Manager Araceli Agpalasin, and the 51 fishermen witnessed the award of the livelihood grant held during a simple ceremony at the DOLE Training Center in Tacloban City. The 51 marginal fishermen of Oras will use the grant under the DOLE’s Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) to purchase wooden fishing boats, nets, and other fishing paraphernalia. Part of the grant will be spent on capacity-building training for the fishermen.
