In early 2007, I went to Salt Lake City for an extended business trip and stayed in the downtown area (Liberty Park), very close to Temple Square and the Mormon Temple in all of its splendor. However, the Liberty Park area was overrun with homeless people and vagrants who were a little intimidating to meet on the street. The only other place that I have been where the disparity in people was so pronounced is Washington, DC. Lying on the lush grassy landscapes close to the White House and other symbols of power and American history was every kind of vagrant imaginable. It doesnt have to be this way.
