In politics, as in the free market, accountability means nothing - TopicsExpress

In politics, as in the free market, accountability means nothing without competition. Me, just now Unless a politician has reasonable fear that their position is in short-term jeopardy, no number of regulators or watchdogs will be able to stop those seeking short-term rents and payoffs from the highest bidders. In the free market, the first real, profitable competitive advantage in an industry (Google, Microsoft, Apple, Ford, Carnegie, Standard Oil, etc.) enjoys little to no competition, and has no accountability. So we have regulated businesses to death, ostensibly to protect the little guys from the monopolies. But as long as Congress has no term limits, both the politicians and big business are the ones protected. Term limits and deregulation of small business. Will stop income inequality in its tracks.
