In some cases its easier to predict the distant future than it is to predict what will happen in our lifetime. What sort of monumental events can we expect? 1,000 years - Gamma Cephel becomes our north star. 13,000 years - Earths axial tilt is reversed. 20,000 years - Chernobyl is free of any radioactive pollution. 50,000 years - All of Greenlands ice has melted. 100,000 years - The titanium in our electronics corrodes. 1,000,000 years - Red giant Betelgeuse explodes (and is vivible from earth)! 4,000,000 years - Pioneer 11 probe passes the Lambda Aquilae system (125 light years away) The timeline gets a bit depressing after this point but is still fascinating.
