So apparently weve created quite the furor with a comment or two - TopicsExpress

So apparently weve created quite the furor with a comment or two from our recap from last night. And, if we got too personal, then we should apologize. So here it is: Reed, if you read our recap and saw that we blasted you, we are sorry for having done so. That said, those comments do not take away from the very legitimate concern we have about competitive balance from host to host. It occurs to us that we have heard things like Its supposed to be fun or Its just bar trivia, as though such statements should quash our concerns or criticisms. Something wed like you to consider if this is your particular viewpoint: almost every concern or criticism we have put forth on this page has had to do with a host deviating from the rules and format of the game as stated by Sporcle Live (an exception being our complaints about an overabundance of pop culture questions, which we have not complained about in quite a while, if youre paying attention). Swapping questions in, giving extra hints, giving musical hints, allowing teams to report their own scores on the Quickfire. Every single one of these is a departure from what Sporcle has stated as the rules of their game. So our question is this: why bother having rules at all if its just bar trivia or if having rules gets in the way of having fun? You see, we have a lot of fun when the game is run in a consistent, professional, and fair manner. We do not believe it is at all unreasonable to expect a host to run the game smoothly rather than taking long pauses between questions to flirt or to screw around on their computer. Nor do we believe it an unbearable burden for a host to grade the Quickfire responses, as there are many hosts who do it without complaint. So yes, we were a bit blunt earlier today. However, that bluntness was borne out of the frustration that our very reasonable expectations have been repeatedly ignored. When we have pointed out, on occasion, that the music is far too loud, the response weve gotten is Im trying. What the hell does that mean? It means nothing. It means Your concern is unimportant to me. *I* like it this loud and Im going to leave it that way, despite the fact that there are patrons who are stuffing napkins in their ears due to the volume. It strikes us that throwing a comment out like Its just bar trivia is akin to going to McDonalds, ordering your food, discovering you received the wrong order, and then shrugging your shoulders and saying Well, its just McDonalds as though you shouldnt expect good customer service regardless of the vendor.
