In the beginning was a universe of sounds limited only by what a human ear could discern as music. Then language and instruments were invented limiting music only to what nearby humans could produce as music. As travel became easier you could also listen to nearby tribes or wandering griot, troubadours. Soon you could record music opening up a world of all music that could be set down. Radio stations were invented to limit, and thus profit off, this re-freedom. Mixtapes, used records, and CD exchanges helped. Then the internet re-re-freedomed music and almost anything from almost anywhere could be heard almost anytime by almost anyone. Today we have Pandora, and Spotify, Itunes, and SiriusXFM to trade musical freedom for laziness and all our private data. The battle conitinues, Happy St. Paddys Day!
