In the early morning, it started. The low, deep moaning sound. Had no idea what it was, so I looked out the back door. To my surprise, it was a St. Bernard who had been hit by a car. Bleeding from his back leg, I ran for towels and warm soapy water in a big pot and began cleaning his wound. Thankfully, once washed, it was just a big scrape wound and could heal readily if he received quick care. So, I took him in. Fed him cans of meat I had from babysitting another dog, as I run an animal care sitting service. This baby obviously must be someones pet, but, sadly, no collar. Hmmm....what to do. I called the local paper and ran an ad describing the dog. Wonder if anyone would call.. In the meantime, until I hear from someone.....I became the over see er of one young St. Bernard. Previous vet tech training helped me soothe him, and I got antibiotic salve and wound wash and cleansed the leg.. Something told me this would be a new baby for the house to go with my cocker spaniel.. I named him Lucky....and I think that was a great name. As I turned, I noticed he had taken over my over sized chair. Yes. Lucky....the very fortunate dog.
