In the middle of an absolutely stupendous day, I drove myself to Davis to see the documentary, Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago The Camino Documentary. Ive been waiting for a long time for it to show around here -- at least somewhere within reasonable distance. By serendipity, I discovered it was showing this weekend (and over the next few days in Davis). If you arent familiar with the walk, it is a 500-mile pilgrimage of sorts (meaning, whatever sort of pilgrimage you want it to be, even if nothing more than a spectacular walk). The traditional way stretches from St. Jean Pied de Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain where youll find the tomb of St. James. I first learned about the walk from Martin Sheens movie, The Way, and my friend, Kat, who did it! The documentary was absolutely amazing and inspiring. I returned home all bubbling over and asked Gino if he wants to walk it with me. Sure, why not! What the hell, he responded without hesitation. What a husband! Retirement cant come soon enough! The Camino is officially on The List!
