In the past I led many groups on Facebook. However I have never had a page before this was kind of an accident. I got a message set and deleted it because I thought it was a post as well as a message. Now I see it was not a post and although I stand by all I said in my response to the messenger I am not angry about messages of a more varied nature. If anyone ever posts on this page I hope it will be to discuss the novel. The writer of this novel was writing about life during the War of Resistance Against Japan. The book is one of the most famous modern Chinese authors, Qian ZhongShu. This book is regarded as among greatest 20th century Chinese or even East Asian novels. While the book is about the lives and to some degree the marriages of some intellectuals during the war against the Japanese it is titled based on a mostly French metaphor referring to marriages being like a besieged city with those inside wanting to come out and those outside wanting to come in and some would say marriage is not really a subject here but the lives are the besieged cities of the metaphor. I read the book in English when I was in China and have no copy with me now.
