In todays episode of Doing Nice Shit I went to the arcade aka Craigs Cruisers aka Dave & Busters etc. I Love these places as its where all the worlds problems have to wait outside. This one is Heaven. It has laser tag, skee ball, air hockey, pin ball machines, playhouses, video games out the wazoo and are your ready for this? GO KARTS!! It brings out the 10 year old in me which is always very near the surface. No time for play today, though as I was on mission. I needed gift cards. 2 in fact for $50.00 each. Redeemed on all you can eat pizza day and its quite the value. Im on this mission as it was a while back I was slowly rolling down the street and I saw my preacher friend sitting curbside looking forlorn. He told me that a woman had been killed in a car accident leaving behind two sons who were 7 & 12. He was preparing the sermon for the funeral. There are few times in life Ive been at a loss for words as on occasion they can be absolutely useless. This was one of them. I looked ahead and then back at him and simply said I got nothing. This was going to be just gut wrenching. I didnt know the woman or the kids but in a way we all do. They were a family. Like we all are. Ive done a couple of family funerals for my aunts, but they were stately, had lived full lives and my cousins got a kick out of it. I looked at the preacher and said Dont open with new material, if youre not bringing it, thank the military, do little crowd work and for Gods sake dont go long. He chuckled, got the reference and I drove off. I cant begin to fathom the loneliness these boys must feel. Every Birthday, every Christmas, proms and weddings....I dont even know their names but I can get the gift cards to preacher who can get them to the family who can get them to the boys who can get to the arcade and then and they can play laser tag right after air hockey, just before skee-ball and then oh shit, then the video games and then they can stuff their face with pizza and then GO KARTS!!! Then maybe they can laugh and play and do stuff boys were meant to do and maybe they can actually enjoy Mothers Day.
