Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, has deployed an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Bala Nasarawa, to supervise security arrangements during Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for Saturday. Four Commissioners of Police will assist him. According to a statement by Frank Mba, Force Public Relations Officer, Ikechukwu Aduba will function as Commissioners of Police in charge of Ekiti State for the period of the election and three other Commissioners of Police will be specifically saddled with the responsibility of supervising security arrangements in the three senatorial districts of the state. Mba said Danladi Mshelbwala would supervise security arrangements in Ekiti-North, Mohammed Ibrahim would supervise security arrangements in Ekiti-Central and Augustine Eubakhabokum would supervise security arrangements in Ekiti-South. He added that Hosea Karma would be charged with the responsibility of supervising the operations of the Police Mobile Force and other special Strike Forces. Mba said this was part of the measures aimed at ensuring a proper coordination of security operations and thus realizing a hitch-free election, devoid of electoral fraud in the forthcoming governorship election. Effective Thursday, meanwhile, police imposed a curfew in the state. Movements will be restricted within the state between 6am to 8pm. Kwara, Kogi, Ondo and Osun States which are contiguous to Ekiti will have increased Police presence with all entry and exit points in and out of Ekiti maximally policed. According to a statement from the Force High Command the restriction order is informed by the exigencies of overriding security considerations.
