Installation by Pierre Portelli #settembru64 The work focuses on the concept of transparency as a key value in a democratic society. It is also an interactive piece, in line with the previous projects in this series where sound and digital technology played an integral part. In this instance the inspiration is derived from the carillons à musique, the swiss music box. The viewer is able to see the actual mechanism that produces the tune, a reflection on the workings and mechanisms involved in the Nation building process in a transparent democracy. The players themselves activate the music box. Within this context the players become the citizens who actively participate in the nation building process. The Innu Malti will be the tune that is generated by their action. With the achievement of Independence in 1964, the Innu Malti was proclaimed Maltas national anthem, cementing its status as one the most recognisable markers of Maltese national identity.
