Instrumentation in my favorite style of music is often made up of two parts. Rhythm and lead. As it it so in other genres, bluegrass seems to be a more simple style of music. Doesnt mean it is simple to play, but simplified rather and often looked over by people who dont understand the beauty of its simplicity. What Im getting at is this. I appreciate almost all genres of music and am an avid listener to many different artists. If youre a listener and youve never heard good bluegrass music, I ask you to give it a shot. For example the rhythm technique of Tony Rice or the steady banjo roll of Earl Scruggs. The amazing mandolin leads of Chris Thile or the true tasteful approach of Jerry Douglass dobro playing. I like to call that gentlemens bluegrass. Dont think were just a bunch of rednecks. We work hard to keep our beloved genre alive and there is a tremendous amount of purity in this style of music. If youre a player who has never tried taking on bluegrass, try it out. Its not as easy as it sounds. If youre a singer try learning some harmony vocals and sing along at a bluegrass jam. By the way if youve never been to a bluegrass jam youre really missing out. I guess what Im trying to say is dont knock it just because its different. Music is a language and us musicians all speak it differently. Ive learned to accept other genres of music and it has opened up my thought process a lot. If I had a closed mind about music I would probably never learn a thing. Hope this gets you thinking a little bit about music in general!!! Its pretty much all I ever think about. God bless and have an awesome Sunday!!!
