International Forum Ends with Commitment to Free the Five By Leandro | | | Havana, Sept 13, – The International Forum for the Cuban Five concluded in Havana on Thursday with the commitment to strengthen the struggle to stop the injustice committed in the United States against the Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who have been held in US prisons for 15 years now. During the forum, was held at Havana’s Hotel Nacional, Cuban Friendship Institute president Kenia Serrano read a final document supporting the actions by solidarity groups in the United States and calling for new initiatives to let the cause of the Five be better known around the world. Participants agreed to stage a new solidarity campaign next year and take the case to the World Festival of Youths and Students, which will take place in Ecuador in December. They also suggested to focus actions on documents of the US government, which reveal the innocence of the five Cubans concerning the charges imposed on him. The final declaration will be a guide for further work of organizations, institutions and movements of solidarity both in Cuba and abroad and for activists from around the world who have joined the global campaign for the release of Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Gerardo Hernandez. The four Cubans, along Rene Gonzalez, who is already back in Cuba, were arrested in 1998 and later imposed unfair and extremely long prison sentences after they monitored US-based terrorist organizations that have planned attacks on Cuba with the consent of several US administrations. /Source: ACN
