Introducing Design2Brew - A homebrew hangout coming to OFallon Missouri In the next several weeks a new business called Design2Brew will open in Winghaven (OFallon MO near MasterCard) next to Blue Sky. Housed in 3,000 square feet, Design2Brew will 1. Be licensed to provide brew on premise (beer and cider) and wine on premise (mead and wine.) The equipment we have selected is new to the market. Hasn’t even been released and the manufacturer has promised to be here with us for our Grand Opening to provide demonstrations. Our brew kettles will be capable of 1 gallon, 2.5 gallon, 5 gallon, 10 gallon and 20 gallon batches. We could do 30 gallon batches -- but will wait a year before offering this option. 2. Have a 650 Sq Foot designated classroom/demonstration area capable of supporting a class of 25 students. Numerous beginning, intermediate and advanced level brewing and wine making classes and “Ted Talks” are planned. A few of the classes we will be working on are a BJCP Prep Series, Cicerone prep series, classes about yeast, water chemistry, laboratory analysis and more. A primary focus of Design2Brew is continuous learning. Look forward to Free lending library. White papers. Hands on Mentoring. Equipment Rental. Many of our sessions will be free of charge or a nominal cost. The demonstration classroom can be made available to GBS for demonstrations, classes or meetings at no cost if scheduled in advance. 3. Will provide (a lot ) of new and innovative products not seen in this market -- especially for Mead Makers. 4. Will have weekly (rotating beer, wine, mead, cider) Bring a Brew Socials for brewers to bring in samples of their products to share and obtain feedback. Discounts will be provided to those who share. 5. A Laboratory is planned. In our present lives we provide laboratory technical services to forensic laboratories in fun places like Iraq, Algeria and Moldova. We are using our knowledge of wet chemistry, microbiology and laboratory quality to create a small lab with appropriate instruments– both for learning purposes and also as a service to the brewing and wine making communities. It will be small to start. But it is a start. 7. Our sponsored groups and mentors will maintain 8 taps in house for experimental and sampling purposes (1) tap dedicated to cider. This will hopefully be manned by a future cider sub-group. (1) tap scheduled for a style of the month. (1) tap dedicated to our women brewers. (2) taps dedicated to experimental brews developed by our in house Brew Mentor (3) taps that will hopefully be filled by an experimental batch from a local small craft brewery. This is something new. We will be reaching out to our local professional brewers to see if they would like to participate in this program on a rotating basis. 6. Design2Brew will be the home of two (hopefully three) new sub/focused groups to explore a few stylesin depth. --- The Missouri Mead Making Society, the first recognized chapter of the American Mead Makers Association (think Mazer Cup) ---Women Who Brew. ---Group for Cider and Perry makers if there is enough interest. We have ambitious plans. May not get all done at once -- but we have a lot of energy and are going to try. We will have a website. It is just about done and will be posted soon. Feel free to email me if you have questions. We are also actively seeking individuals who are interested in sharing their knowledge, giving a Ted Talk or perhaps doing providing a poster for a poster session. Stephanie Design2Brew.
