Is Wenger really going to lure Michu to Arsenal? Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s summer swoop for a new centre-forward may see him bid for Swansea’s Michu suggest The Guardian among many others. The Spaniard has emerged as another target for Wenger who is also tracking Wayne Rooney, Gonzalo Higuain and Stevan Jovetic. Michu proved to be last season’s bargain buy of the season after joining the Welsh side from Rayo Vallecano for just £2 million. He bagged 22 goals in his debut season for Michael Laudrup’s side, which saw the club claim the Capital One cup, with Michu scoring one of the five goals in the demolition of Bradford City in the final. The 27-year-old had plied his trade in Spain since making his debut for Oviedo in 2003, moving on to Celta Vigo before joining Rayo for the 2011/12 season. In his only season in La Liga with Rayo he scored 15 goals in 37 appearances including braces against Real Sociedad, Racing Santander, Osasuna and two at the Bernabeu in a 6-2 loss to Real Madrid. Although he may not be top of Wenger and the Arsenal supporters wishlist, Michu would of course prove a cheaper alternative to the higher valued alternatives of Rooney, Higuain and Jovetic as well as other potential targets Karim Benzema and Edin Dzeko.
