Is anyone else struggling to get support? Stevei says: My son was diagnosed with asd and is high functioning. He goes to a mainstream school and we see an asd each month. This meeting is just me and the wife she never sees my son. She gives us advise and we talk about things we have been struggling with. He was initially diagnosed by a paediatrician last year and we went to see him again 4-5 months later to talk about his behavioral problems and that we are not coping. We are convinced that he has also got some other issues and its not just asd why he is challenging. We were told to do an ABC chart to identify the triggers and he said he would refer us to health and well being he said he would see us again in 12 months. My son did the health and well being course which was weekly for 6 weeks. They worked on him dealing with his own temper and anxieties. Nothing has changed at all he is still aggressive and we are really struggling. We spoked to our family support worker who we basically dont see at all god knows why we have her really. She filled in a CAF assessment 2 weeks ago and recommendations she out in was for us to get some respite. I was meant to get a call today with the outcome but heard nothing but I will be honesty doubt we will get any help as we have already been told by the asd nurse that she isnt aware of any services for mainstream children who are high functioning. It really gets me mad as its hard for my son and us and just because he is very clever and people would never know he has a disability it doesnt mean he isnt hard work. He is really difficult to manage and I am a carer myself and he is 10 times harder than the asd children I care for. Has anyone got any success stories or struggling just as we are.
