Is holiness fragile? In my continued reading of Renovating Holiness, JR Forasteros has this to say, An observer of our Holiness churches is likely to conclude that Holiness is a precious, precarious quality that must be protected and preserved from contamination. But is Holiness really so fragile? Jesus’ own example indicates the answer is “No.” But what we see repeatedly in the Gospels is that Jesus is not contaminated by his contact with the unclean. His holiness is never in danger. It’s not a fragile quality Jesus must protect and preserve. Rather, Jesus is lavish with his love. Not only is he happy to party with tax collectors and sinners, he heals the sick. He welcomes the outsiders. He raises the dead. Jesus’ holiness is the dangerous quality. Jesus’ holiness is what is contagious. In the face of his bodily presence, sin is what’s in trouble. In the presence of Jesus, the sick are healed. Demons abandon those they had possessed. the broken are made whole. the sinners are transformed into saints. the dead are raised to life. Jesus commands his followers to embody this same dangerous holiness. Join the Renovating Holiness discussion...
