Is this a good time to plant? We get this question all year long - TopicsExpress

Is this a good time to plant? We get this question all year long no matter how nice, hot or cold it is. That question is better asked of yourself, than me, but here are some points to consider that might help you make that decision during our hotter season. If you have an established yard, with lots of other trees, plants then yes, this is a great time to plant, especially for tropicals because you want them to get as established as they can before it gets cold. If your yard is basically still desert, little or no trees or shade or microclimates then maybe you should wait 3-4 months to make the job and chances of success a little easier. If you arent here for a lot of the summer then wait. If you dont like going outside, even early in the morning during the summer to check how things are doing, then wait. Of course if you answered no to the two previous questions then by all means plant. What are you planting? Some plants can easily be planted now with little risk even if you dont give them much care, we call these our goof proof assortment. Mulberry, grape, jujube, quince, fig, olive, pomegranate are easy to do anytime of year. Lots of other trees can be planted too with varying degree of care, just depends on what it is and size. Just because you buy a tree does not mean you have to plant it right away, it isnt like buying fish for aquarium. With just basic nursery care you can keep the tree you bought in the container it came in for usually at least a year before transplanting to a bigger container or planting in the ground. tropicamango
