Is this how a serious crime is investigated? Kaien Kumar Hembrom, President of All Santhali Students Union (ASSU) was detained by the Gossaigaon Police this afternoon ostensibly to investigate the killing of STF Commander-in-Chief Siblal Murmu two days ago at a public function. The reason why he was detained is apparently because he had presided over the function that evening where Siblal was killed and one of the arrested accused, Durga Murmu of STF had called him on his mobile to inform him that Siblal has been shot and that the function should be stopped. He was still on stage when Siblal was killed. Kaien had gone to the police station this afternoon after he had heard of the killings of three persons by suspected NDFB (S) in Borobadha under Gossaigaon Police Station, two of which were Muslims, including a woman. And sometime later, he was shocked to find himself detained. If indeed this sort of harassment of Adivasi leaders continues, this shall certainly have repercussions. I have communicated it to senior officials that this should immediately stop.
