It doesnt come as a shock to me that Maria Sharapova has no clue who Sachin Tendulkar is. Cricket, though followed by about a billion people, is still a sport that isnt popular in about 75% of world nations. What is funny here is the fact that she knows and admires David Beckham. David Beckham is a very ordinary footballer. His fame stems from his looks and celebrity wife rather than his accomplishments on the field. Beckham has represented England in 115 senior games and scored a paltry 17 goals. He has no major international achievements as an individual or as part of a team, and this begs the question as to whether Sharapova is even aware of Beckhams career. Sharapovas page has been spammed almost to the point of destruction by furious cricket fans who are blowing the whole thing out of proportion, the same fans who will not be able to name any player on the Indian national hockey squad. All said, I still found a comment that was spot on. Dear Sharapova, Sachin was a sportsman who made his international debut when your country was still the Soviet Union. When you became world No.1 for the first time, he had been world No.1 for 15 years.
