It has been noted by more than one person that I rarely mention my wife. I would point out that I attempt humor and talk about fiscal matters, but that is not talking about me either. We are public personalities that happen to be very private people. She suggested that I post this circumstance from last night, a little insight. Dont blink, this isnt going to happen often...... After the ballgame last night, we watched from our DVR our recording of the allstar tribute to Don Rickles. It was fabulous. My wife, being younger than me, had not seen many of the old clips of Mr Warmth with Johnny, Sinatra, Dean, and others. And it really was a whos who of living comedy also. If you were significant in comedy and couldnt be in person, you sent a recording. Like I said, it was really good. At the end, the closer was David Letterman, who introduced the honoree and closed the show. Crystal noted that the only person to get a standing ovation other than Rickles was Dave. I then said that I was not surprised, because the audience was full of people who understood the significance of comedic history. She sat there quietly for a few minutes, thinking about all of the guests, watching closely at the audience full of notables, and I could see a thought processing. I simply said what? She then asked rather innocently, It really does look like everybody is there. Who isnt there? I instantly, I mean instantly, replied loudly with that fake announcers introductory voice, Jaaaaaaaay Lenoooooooo. We had to stop the DVR for a second to quit laughing long enough to hear Don. Yes, shes lived with a pseudo-professor of comedy for many years now, but she understands the history of entertainment well, and she recognizes quality and originality, and she well noted where true comedians point their respect. BTW, she doesnt tolerate the ballgames, shes a fan. She made me sincerely laugh last night, something that is hard to actually do. Yeah, I should mention her more often.
