It has struck me lately how utterly materialistic Americans have made Christmas. Im trying to make my life more simple in terms of possessions, and find myself coming upon a holiday where were supposed to show our love for one another by spending money on material things. And thats the last thing I need--more stuff in my house. Our market system demands sales, and sales demand advertising, and advertisers have latched onto Christmas as a means to an end, and they have billions to get their messages tweaked just right, and the result is 300 million Americans being led around by their noses by forces that they dont fully understand. Im just going to say it-- this emperor has no clothes.
