It is critical for your well-being that you are able to stand up for your needs and wants when others demand more than you are able or willing to give. Happiness, motivation, devotion to desires – these are essential to all. The people making demands can be seen as the enemy, but stop a minute and think - are they really the enemy? Do you know who the most dangerous person is to your well-being? You are. A pattern of continual learned behavior throughout our lives that we decided to take in and practice is what cements our actions in the present. We are who we believe we are. Negative self-perceptions only enhance self-defeating behavior , just as positive-perceptions of self will increase the motivation for a better you. The hardest person you have to stand up to is yourself. You must persuade yourself to take a step back and see your actions for what they truly represent to others. Tell yourself there will be no more next time, no more waiting until another time, no avoidance of perceived conflict. Take charge first by taking charge of you. Shane Koyczan helps to identify the reality of self-defeating origins from what we learn. Watch his video and then ask yourself if you can relate.
